‘Like You Never’ lyrics

[Verse 1]
For every five steps forward I take ten steps back
I love the music but can’t see where it’s at?
Strictly fast food runnings
How we supposed to adapt
How we supposed to raise kids to that
And I ain’t blaming no one it starts with me
Before heart failure there’s blocked arteries
We were usually on point no archery
Creative to a fault
Like an art degree but something happened it’s kinda like a takeover
The sampling law changed
The looping of the breaks over
Tho corporate there’s nothing pretty about this makeover
Pay for play and now you influence what we say
We even let you walk off with the deejay
It’s hard to hear a single scratch on records these days besides the clichés
Somebody got to keep up traditions
It’s a new day but still something is missing I mean

[Chorus]
That’s what I’m telling everybody (I’m like you never)
That’s what I’m telling everybody (I’m like you never)

[Verse 2]
And now the new school is no school
Cos everybody and their mama knows Pro Tools
Writing raps and recording bad vocals
Being a star is more than being anti-social
I’m more than boastful
I’m hopeful of brighter tomorrow
Used to weaving words together other writers can follow
I hear anger in music but the message is hollow
Upon further inspection you can see what’s been borrowed
Foreign ideals of real bluffing to do with nothing now we reinvent the wheel
Caps get peeled as we slip on banana skins
Stuttering stammering should have been Fannie Lou Hamer-ring
Instead we are glimmity glammering
This struggle is a headache plus Anadin
Mic check even breathing is challenging
The music is a powerful thing especially when it’s used to boost the power Within but you don’t hear me ha!

[Chorus]
That’s what I’m telling everybody (I’m like you never)
That’s what I’m telling everybody (I’m like you never)

[Verse 3]
I had my palm read
She told me not to leave this alone
So I miss real artist like Nina Simone
Full of integrity never too keen to be cloned
That’s why the need to be different
Buried deep in my bones
Cos swagger never paid bills just skills
I guess I took the long road mountain plus hills
Turntables and mic cables love from the crowd is more important than the right label
And I don’t want the 90′s sound back
But you can’t deny the Linn Drum really sounds wack
Just living thru the movie but not feeling the soundtrack
Not trying to be bougie but not trying to be round that
I grew up in a brown black facade so I’m not trying to act like I’m that large
But I’m trying to rap like I’m that guard when it comes to culture I’m pulling raps card Like a placard

[Chorus]
That’s what I’m telling everybody (I’m like you never)
That’s what I’m telling everybody (I’m like you never)

Rap6 & Cashino collab on a new joint for his NDT Mixtape Vol.1

NDT Mixtape Volume 1For the first time since 2006 myself and NDT member Cashino collab on his brand new mixtape mixed by DJ Yemster.
He asked me to bless a freestyle for him and he selected the Red Cafe beat ‘I’m Ill’ which he felt was perfect for us to both spit some heat on. He said it was just to remind the game that we still here, and we can still bring it. So of course it had to be some hard bars.

I must admit it got me thinking bout a comeback lol.

Let me know what you think on Twitter or below.

New TV Series Youngers to debut March 20th on E4

New tv series Youngers to debut on March 20th on E4

Youngers TweetThe eight-part programme is set in South-East London and follows a group of friends trying to negotiate their way through teenage life and launch a music career.

In case your wondering why I’m posting this, IT’S BECAUSE I’M IN IT FOOL! lol.

“It’s GCSE results day and friends Yemi and Jay nervously make their way to find out what the future holds.  Aspiring producer Yemi aces his results, but there’s no celebrating for Jay.  Determined to swerve a career fixing boilers with his dad, MC Jay picks up a leaflet for Mic Star, a local music competition that could be his break into the urban music industry.   But for these Youngers it’s never going to be that easy…”

Youngers will mainly focus on the characters Yemi – an  honour student and aspiring producer – and Jay, who enters a local music  competition after failing his GCSEs.

YouTube stars Mandem On The Wall,  individually known as BRIT school graduates Jovian Wade, Percelle Ascott and Dee  Kartier, will appear alongside new talent spotted at open auditions attended by  350 actors, rappers and aspiring music artists aged  16-19.

Documentary maker Anthony Philipson, whose previous  work includes 24 Hours in A&E and Coppers, will make his  drama directorial debut on the show.

Commissioning editor for Channel 4 Drama Sophie  Gardiner said:

“Levi David Addai has written something utterly contemporary,  witty and warm, which offers an insight into the lives of teenagers who have  dreams and talent – a view of a world we don’t often see.”

Executive  producer Luke Alkin added: “Levi  David Addai captures this world in an incredibly fresh, funny and positive way.  His characters are inner-city teenagers with dreams and ambitions for the future  – and this is what makes Youngers feel so original and exciting.”

Check me out in episodes one and two. And tell a friend to tell a friend.

Chip ‘London Boy’ Mixtape (3/5)

Chip_London_Boy-front-large2No long talk, the boy Chip did good with this right here jheeeeez! Ok lemme get back on my professional shit…

As I was never a grime head I was slow to hear bout the young boy runin wit Wiley. It wasn’t until ‘Who Are You’ blazed all over Channel-U that I got to thinking “Wiley got himself a real problem here, this kid is quite nice with it”.

Fast forward and Chipmunk (as he was then known) was all over the airwaves and youth TV. I ain’t gonna lie, I was deaf to the boy during this period as I wasn’t really into that pop sound he was amassing the £p’s with. But I respect the grind so was of course never a hater lol. The album ‘I Am Chipmunk’ (2009) did well for him, and he followed that up with the ‘blacker’ (yeah I said it) album ‘Transition’ (2011), that was panned by the critics and criminally ignored by radio. And you know what, ‘Transition’ was alright you know, it had some big tunes on there including the single Champion featuring Chris Brown.

Fast forward, he dropped the Munk from his name, left the label, relocated to USA, an inked a deal with T.I’s Grand Hustle imprint. The resulting features and freestyles both in the US and UK have only wetted the appetite for the ‘London Boy’ to bless the masses with some new material. In my opinion he doesn’t disappoint.

On the track ‘Letter To London’ Chip spits “Everyone that shot me down for not making grime / Is now not making grime, I’m just ahead of my time”. It’s not without bare cliché’s but ‘London Boy’ overall sends a powerful message to the UK scene, simply that making just hiphop is alright, you don’t need the weird shit to get heard. Chip holds his own with his boss T.I and Iggy Azalea on ‘Hustle Gang’ where he spits “its bedtime for your career pussy lay down” lol. Testament to the Grand Hustle deal he got some big US features on the mixtape like Meek Mill and Young Jeezy, as well as UK greats like Skepta, Wretch32, and Blade Brown.

My joints are ‘Beautiful’, the collabo with Skepta ‘My Crew’, ‘Like A Movie’, and ‘Official’ the collabo with Wretch32 and Blade Brown.

Don’t let any memories of ‘Chip Chippy Chip’ put you off listening to this mixtape. You will be surprised how far the boy has come.

Check Out: ‘Beautiful’, ‘Like A Movie’, ‘Official’, &  My Crew’.

Listening to: Styles P ‘The Worlds Most Hardest MC Project’

Listening to:

Styles P ‘The Worlds Most Hardest MC Project (5/5)

StylesP_HardestStyles P has always been a problem to the game. I don’t know anyone who listens to hiphop that don’t rate P, he holdin down this ‘gangster and a gentleman’ persona down dolo. Killer features on a myriad of artists tracks, yet he saves the best for his DBlock fam and solo joints. So onto the latest release from Ghost ‘The Worlds Hardest MC Project’.

P goes in from the jump on the neck snapper ‘Araab Styles’ where he spits “I ain’t got time for time / Dancing in the shadow of the shadows, no time for shine”. Oh there’s more… joints like ‘I Know’, ‘Empire State High’, and ‘Pop Out’ BEEN terrorising the roads wherever my whip’s been TRUST ME!

Yeah he 1 dimensional, but you know anyone that can visualise that gangsta braggadocio quite like P then holla at me. Like Ronseal P does exactly what it says on the ‘tin’, nothing more, nothing less. To some that might be boring, but to me it’s comfortable, I know what to expect so am rarely dissapointed. Straight hard rhymes, with enough wit to make me go oooooweee, over some of the hardest beats out there.

You know what, some of you UK rappers currently in this gangsta music lane couldn’t learn from anyone better than StylesP. He creates a menacing picture complete with a soundtrack as good as any of the best gangster movie flicks out there. On ‘Shooter’ P spits “G’s love me cause I rap but they know I’m a shooter / Bitches love me, they say I can seduce Medusa” lol. I don’t get into the debate whether an MC does what he says on record, but I understand authenticity is really important to some. I’m more about the picture being crafted, and whether the MC is talented enough, bar for bar, to pull off something that makes me hit rewind. StylesP does that for me on this project, as with some of his previous work.

Styles spits ‘Either you get it or you don’t’ on ‘Pop Off’, and that my friends is the eternal problem for him. Too many of you mfkrs just don’t get it, but to the rest of us diehards Ghost lives forever. In the current audio landscape this is a 5/5 album, so go cop it.

Check Out: ‘Pop Out’, ‘Araab Styles’, ‘I Know’, &  ‘Shooter’.

Listening to:

S.A.S ‘Coming To America 2 (Side A)’ Mixtape (4/5)

SAS_C2A2-front-largeI actually feel sorry for S.A.S. This ‘road rap’ lane Uk HipHop is currently immersed in S.A.S could arguably claim they helped pioneer. Before the old headz start on me I’m not saying they were the first group from these shores to speak about the road life, I ain’t forgotten bout man like Universal Soldiers. But in the same lane as US street rap with a UK twist it was man like Mike GLC, groups like Moorish Delta & S.A.S / Eurogang in my opinion that touched this current generation of spitters (S/O Bronz-N-Black).

This mixtape is testament to that and can sit alongside any of the recent releases from the US. S.A.S still have that cocky, witty flow, with punchlines for days, not the reaching type neither, real punches from one of the most consistent groups out there.

‘Wheels Up’ is as current as it gets, and these boys terrorise that S-X beat. Mayhem spits “On a wave I’m Poseidon / Family flag tyrant / We circumnavigate the globe like we’re pirates” & Mega hit us with “If looks could kill you can call me Scott Summers” look it up bitches, go on Google it lol. The remix for ‘Suave Life’ is as hot as the original version. ‘Team Global’ successfully rides street and radio friendly and could be a huge hit. But my favourite shit is the ‘Tiffy Freestyle’ as this really shows how dope S.A.S actually are. Mega spits “though we elevated these niggas they on the ground floor”.

Overall this is a quality release, consistent throughout, and I was able to leave it on without fast forwarding. Well that’s not completely true, I don’t like ‘Drug Flow’ much, & the ‘James Bond’ hook gets a lil annoying (but I get the point lol). But other than that it’s nice you know. In fact it made me go and dig out the first Coming To America mixtape and listen again LOL.SAS_C2A1-front-large

I can’t quite put my finger on why these guys are not multi millionaires from this hip hop music yet, as they tick all the right boxes. But if they continue to put out quality music like this and not try to please these UK hating arse programmers with joints like ‘Shout’, then they could end up the winners after all. They really deserve it. Oi Oi!!!

Check Out: ’Wheels Up’, ‘Team Global’, ‘Tiffy Freestyle’, &  ’Suave Life Remix’.
